Falkirk and District Tramways began operation in 1905 operating a tram service in Falkirk which stretched just over twelve and a half kilometres in a circular network. The tram was to 1, 219 mm (4 ft) gauge. The company's fleet consisted of eighteen double decker trams built by Compagnie Générale de Construction of St Denis, France. Three more built by Brush were later added to the fleet. All of the company's trams were single truck double deckers with an open top deck.

The company's trams used Bruce Peebles and Company equipment throughout from the power company, substations through to the motors and controllers on the trams. As well as the tram network, the company also operated two electrically operated swing bridges which included their own independent sections of overhead wires [2].
The tramway was taken over by the Scottish Motor Traction Company in 1935 and shut down the following year. One tram car has been preserved.
